Navajas is north of Valencia on the Costa Calida.Last Friday they were celebrating the San Antonio fiesta , the patron saint of animals and were using a bull with burning horns as their entertainment. The 400 kilo bull had just been released into the enclosure and rushed towards a pile of wood where three men were watching the spectacle. Two of the men escaped but the other tripped and the bull charged him and stamped on his head causing irreversible damage.
The mayor of Navajas sent his condolences to the family of the dead man but the bull running for the following day was not cancelled. However black bows were tied to the flags at the town hall as a sign of respect.
The man lived about 70 kilometres south of Navajas and had travelled with friends for the bull running. The family of the man are questioning whether the bull running was being organised strictly to the rules laid down. The mayor has stated that they stood on the wood pile at their own risk.
It was ironic that this accident happened at a fiesta given over to the blessing of animals. That poor bull must have been terrified.

The councillor for social affairs in Orihuela on the Costa Blanca , has announced that the public Early Stimulation Learning Centre in the town will remain open.
Astrospace provided a 430,000 euro grant to maintain the centre but now they have refused to go ahead with the service.Another company Adis has stepped into the breach and they already offer a similar service from their head office , proving that they have the expertise to run it.This has been done to maintain continuity at the school as little children feel more comfortable with people that they know. The opening times , the routines and the complete service will be as it always was.
According to the Social Affairs councillor , nothing is going to change as the council will still put in the same amount of money and Adis will hire the same teachers.

Ibi is a town near Alicante on the Costa Blanca.A town hall worker has alleged that the deputy mayor and PP president had attempted to pressurise him into falsifying documents to cover up the alleged diverting of funds from the building of the sports complex , so that it could be covered up.The worker claims that the funds were diverted to enable a group of councillors to go on a trip to Andorra.
The town hall worker has accused the deputy mayor of seven other alleged crimes and has accused the mayor of another two.The case has become known as the “Caja B ” scandal.
Should the mayor be called to answer these allegations then the scale of the corruption could be of the same proportions as the Gurtel scandal in Valencia.
Caja B refers to the pot of money from which it is alleged all sorts of things were paid for.Tickets to the Cirque de Soleil, paying for trips and purchasing things from wholesalers, the list goes on.
It appears from the allegations that the deputy mayor wanted the town hall worker to get rid of certain documentation so that these purchases could not be traced.
He also alleges that an assessor came in and told him that he had to do what his boss told him to do.The level of alleged corruption still goes on.People never seem to learn their lessons and always think that they will get away with it.

Alicante and Elche infant and first year secondary teachers , on the Costa Blanca , are threatening a month long series of strikes.
Teachers will face a loss of money for taking part in the strikes and by targeting only certain educational levels it will minimise the damage to the education of the children.
Teachers in other parts of Alicante Province have been holding regular meetings to discuss their action over cuts to their wages and also general cuts to the educational system.
One teacher who has taught in Alicante for 35 years and was expecting a 500 euro bonus will be having this halved because of the economic crisis. He has said that he has always given over and above what was expected of him but all of that will now stop and he will work to rule.
Those who do not strike will pay 10% of their salary to help those who do strike. All extra curricular activities will be suspended and they are considering a 37.5 hour week.
