Valencia president Francisco Camps inaugurated the new Alicante - Benidorm tram link on Monday.

The new route will allow passengers to travel between the two destinations in just 1 hour without having to change trams.

The service will run every 30 minutes and stop at 14 stations on its route between Alicante , Campello, Villajoyosa, Finestrat amd Benidorm.

Critics say that the PP-run regional government is still ignoring the rail infrastructure in the region.

They say that it now takes longer to travel from Alicante to Denia than it does to travel from Alicante to Madrid.

Benidorm mayor says that he wants the town to be linked to the AVE high speed train link in the same way as Alicante because of its status as the Costa Blanca’s top resort.
