More than 200 kilos of dead fish were washed up onto Playa de la Roda beach last week.
Altea council has made a formal complaint to the coastal department.
It is possible that the fish were dumped by fishing boats from Murcia and Almeria, that use the port.
The dumping of fish at sea is prohibited and the council representitive said that the fishermans guild must make it clear to its members that this contravenes the law.
