Marina Baja medical centre staff are demanding that the health authorities provide more security guards to protect them from increasing violence .
Unions representing medical staff say that each doctor has around 1800 patients , which means that patients often have to wait for long periods . This is causing conflict with some patients and staff feel threatened.
The medical centre in Villajoyosa has a security guard for only part of the day. This centre has a 15 day wait for appointments and the security is not enough.
A similar situation exists in Foietes in Benidorm.
A spokesman for the union has asked the authorities to take serious look at the situation.
The union is also to ask about job losses of 39 people due to the privatisation of hospital services from October 1st.
