The University of Alicante ’s weather laboratory has said that the bad weather was the tail end of a La Nina phenomenon—-a cold current of Pacific water which lasts for about 4 years.

This cold fron changes weather patterns and in Spain usually causes drought , but as it comes to an end things normalise and readjust and torrential downpours occur.

A succession of ” Gota Fria ” type downpours over the last 2 months has forced significant temperature changes. On April 6th there was a temperature of 30 degrees but last weekend it was 20 degrees.

The weathermen are continuing to predict unsettled weather for the Valencia region during the next week.Many areas suffered flooding on Monday and in Torrevieja the fishing fleet was unable to leave the port.
