THe fight to save Campomanes port in Altea is all but lost because of an EU directive.

A large area of the plant Posidonia has been lost in the area of the port and they have failed to transplant it successfully.

The Green party has asked that the project be suspended indefinately and to order complete restoration of the site.

The European commision representitive has stated that the legislation does make clear that member states should give areas of sea grass special status but it does not state that the grass has to be protected in every place where it exists.

This decision has dismayed ecologists all over the Costa’s.

This EU decision could also have a serious effect on the enlargement of other port projects throughout the coasts of Spain, which were dismissed because of protecting the Posidonia sea prairies.
