In 1838 the British schooner ” Beatrice ” sank off the coast of Cartagena carrying many Egyptian treasures , including the coffin of the Pharoh Micerinos. The treasures were being shipped to the British Museum in London.
The search will be very expensive and funding will need to be raised. The Egyptian government is trying to do a deal with National Geographic TV channel.
The TV channel would have exclusive rights to film and broadcast this archaeological adventure.
If they secure the deal then they will need to seek authorisation from the Spanish government. The Spanish would also be offered the opportunity to participate in the search.
A great deal of specialised equipment will be needed , particularly if the ship is deeper than 30 metres.
It is still unclear if the British government will make a claim on the British ship.
