Prosecutors are asking for a total of 40 years imprisonment for two gangs of drug smugglers.
The gangs went on trial in Alicante this week. The first case involves three members of a six -man gang arrested in Campello in 2004. All deny bringing in almost 7 tonnes of hashish into the country.
The other three men have jumped bail and disappeared.
In the other case five men were arrested in Altea when they were attempting to bring in over 3 tonnes of hashish .
They are facing five years in jail if found guilty. One of these men has admitted his part in the crime but the others have denied involvement or have refused to give testimony.
