The Public Works minister has announced that the AVE Valencia to Madrid high speed link should be ready by 2010 . However Alicante will have to wait until 2012, at least.
The current legislation is aiming to provide high speed trains for at least 55% of the population by 2012.
This means that there will be 1,300 kilometres of new track in this time, to at least , 30 major cities , giving Spain more high speed track than any other country in the world.
The Madrid to Valencia track will be via Cuenca and Albacete.
