Benidorm council has managed to reduce water usage by 5% even though the population has increased.
Speedy repair of leaks and better management strategies has enabled a saving of 573,000 cubic metres of water.
The environmental ministry is backing a plan which will see an end to irrigation water shortages in Jalon and Alcalali.
During heavy rainfall excess water from the River Gorgos will be held in a mini reservoir . It will be held here until being pumped to an existing water tank and then distributed where needed.
