A block of flats was set on fire in Torrevieja after a kitchen fire in a fourth floor flat went out of ccontrol.

Three blocks of flats all share one entrance and some residents were trapped .

The fire fighters had to reassure everyone that they were in no immediate danger , as they contemplated jumping from windows.

The fire was contained but there was a lot of damage to internal doors scorched by the thick smoke which prevented people leaving their apartments and escaping via the internal fire escapes .

The cause of the fire isn’t known and the only injuries were for shock.
