Ecologistas en Accion , a national environmental association , has written a damning report about the Valencian Region for allowing unsustainable development along its coastline.

The 161 page document produces black flags for environmental blackspots along the whole of the Spanish coastline.

They have awarded over 600 black flags for abuses against the environment .

Evert town hall in Alicante Province is singled out for criticism. The town hall of Orihuela  is heavily criticised for allowing the building of over 200 houses in the Sierra Escalona in a pine forest and concreting over Cala de la Mosca with buildings .

Torrevieja has done the same with 2 million square metres of land . Guardamar de la Segura has one of the most polluted rivers in Spain .

Santa Palo town plan is described as ” an aberration to common sense ” , whilst El Campello stands accused of a series of a series of building irregularities as well as the dumping of sewge .

And so it goes on naming Villajoyosa , Benidorm Altea , Calpe , Javea , Moraira and Denia ( the last four for building on cliff tops ).
