Red flags warn that bathing should not take place and consequently there are no lifeguards on duty .

There was a red flag flying between El Campello and Villajoyosa last Wednesday and someone went swimming and it cost him his life .

There have been a number of drownings on the Costa Blanca this summer and this one was unnecessary in the sense that if the warning flag had been heeded he would not have been in the water .

It seems that the 45 year old man got into difficulties because of high waves and a strong current .

Local police tried to revive him without success .
