All girls of 14 living in Andalucia will now have the opportunity to be vaccinated against the virus which causes some forms of cervical cancer .
The Department of Health is starting its programme next week but continues to stress that young people should always follow sensible practise when it comes to genital health , with the use of condoms and regular cervical smears . It is however an important move in controlling one type of cancer .
Of the 45,000 teenagers of this age living in Andalucia , 3,600 live in Almeria , 7000 in Cadiz , 5000 in Cordoba , 5000 in Granada ,3000 in Huelva, 4000 in Jaen ,8000 in Malaga and 10,000 in Seville .
The vaccine is given three times over a period of 6 months .
