William Mark served with Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar and afterwards he settled in Malaga and became the British Consul to the Kingdom of Granada . He was able to persuade the Governor to donate a piece of land which became the English Cemetery in 1829.
A sixth generation decendent of William Mark recently visited the cemetery from his home in New Zealand .
The memory of their ancestor and what he achieved is still very much alive in his decendents who now live in South Africa , New Zealand and the Uk .
One of their proud possessions is a journal that he kept when he was in the Royal Navy with Horatio Nelson .
