Alicante hospital carries out about 60 kidney transplants each year and the donors have always been those who have died in an accident of some sort .

Now the hospital , for the first time has carried out a transplant from a living donor .

As the donor is usually a family member the chances of success are usually higher as they are more compatible .

The only other hospital to do the same operation is La Fe hospital in Valencia .
