In 2007 the regional environment department placed restrictions on the traffic allowed on the Punta de Cavall in the Sierra Helada near Benidorm .
It has now become extremely popular with walkers and cyclists and of 100 people who were asked their opinion 95 felt that not having traffic was a real plus .
The number of visitors has increased by more than one third in a year .Punta de Cavall is one of the main routes used by walkers on Sierra Helada along with one that runs to the summit between Alfaz del Pi and Albir .
The marine reserve in the Sierra Helada national park has also seen the benefits of the mooring buoys which were installed there five years ago to help preserve the Poseidonia reserves .Now that boats do not put down anchors the sea grass beds are not damaged and the beds have remained in good condition during this time .
