The Christmas lottery is called ” El Gordo ” ( The Fat One ) and the Three Kings lottery on January 6 is known as ” El Nino “.

The latter is not as popular as the former but this year the firt prize of 2 million euros went to Tarrasa near Barcelona.

The El Nino prize money tops almost 22 million euros and marks the end of the holiday season in Spain .

The second prize of a million euros went to a small town in the Basque country while the third prize was shared by a number of people in Antequerra in Andalucia .

The amount spent on this lottery varies from region to region. Sales this year topped 700million euros and showed a drop of 2% on last year .
