Last week the European Parliament voted strongly in favour of freezing Spanish funds unless they sort out their real estate abuses and they appear to have a particular concern about Marbella .
A report was written by the Danish Green MEP Margaret Auken and presented initially to the Petitions Committee.Last week the debate was in the full parliament and both the PSOE and the PP representitives failed to persuade their colleagues to agree with them .
The real problem here is that these Spanish representitives could actually endorseĀ issues which are so blatently wrong .Why is it that people do not know the difference between what is RIGHT and what is WRONG.How can any person justify the things which have taken place using the antiquated land laws which exist in Spain .
349 people voted in favour of freezing funding to Spain unless they address the issues , 110 voted against and one wonders about the morality of these individuals and their ability to make an honest and objective evaluation of any topic .Then there were 114 people who sat on the fence and abstained .How can someone not have a view about the issues involved here which have and are affecting the lives of people so drastically .It also involves corruption and surely all MEP’s would agree that that was wrong .
This is the third time that the European Parliament has endorsed criticism of urban land abuses in Spain , once in 2005 and again in 2007.It is about time that they started to do something more active about this appalling state of affairs in a country which has benefited to such a great degree from European funding .If they say that funding will be frozen unless the Spanish , regional and local administrations do something , then freeze the funds until they do .Pay people the compensation they deserve for the way in which they have been treated .This is one of those times when the issue should be dealt with retrospectively .
