Alicante and the Marina Baja , says the Environment Minister will have their fresh water supplies cut off and will have to survive on desalinated water in the future .Water which at the moment comes from the Jucar Water Confederation ( CHJ)will be turned off and Alicante and the surrounding areas will be serviced by the Valencia government .
The government spokesperson said that the Vinolopo region will continue to obtain water from the CHJ but that the Alicante area would form a new region for water .The Valencia region relies on water from the River Tajo backed up with supplies from desalination plants in Agua Amarga on the outskirts of Alicante .In reality it will see Alicante and its surrouding areas without any water from the aquifiers in the Vinolopo, which have been providing water for the last 100 years .
The regional environment minister has rejected the plan and will present his plan to the government when the time is right .
