It seems to be a case where the whole picture wasn’t thought through to envisage the consequences of actions .Orihuela Town Hall thought that it was doing good things for the community when it provided entertainment for the community on St Patrick’s Day and also for a Beer Fest .However local traders saw it differently because they were not involved and in fact lost out because of an outside company organising it all and taking the profits to boot .Last week the traders protested outside the Town Hall and some good seems to have come of it .A spokesperson for the traders said that the meeting with the Commerce Councillor had gone well .In fact it was the Town Hall that contacted the traders and they appreciated that gesture .The fiestas had been detrimental to local businesses and in these times that is not a good thing to happen .

The traders are not against the festivals as long as local businesses are given a chance to make some money too .The outcome is going to be a regular meeting with the traders association to keep them in touch with future events .There is already an association which is supposed to support local businesses but on this occasion it didn’t happen and so the traders will now form their own which will be called TURYCOSTA.Already 30 local businesses have joined .
