Moraira on the Costa Blanca which now seems to be known as Teulada -Moraira ,has rejected the proposal of the regional government to enlarge the port area to take 58 more and larger boats .The regional infra -structure councillor has been told by the new Mayor Antoni Joan Bertomeu that this would not be environmentally acceptable and would spoil the look of a beautiful port area .
Under the plan which was put forward by the regional government the harbour wall would be increased in height from 3.5 metres to 7 metres to enable an extra 58 moorings to be installed .The PP run council told the councillor that not enough protection was being given to the environment and in particular the scenic beauty of the port .The Mayor went on to say that the Club Nautico would receive some financial benefit from such a scheme but that would not compensate the visual damage that a new harbour wall would cause to the port .At last a Mayor who is environmentally aware and is not afraid to stand up to the regional government when it starts to dictate what these lovely small towns should have or not have .
