In Benidorm ,on the Costa Blanca,three property promoters are facing 28 years in jail for selling the same properties to several different people and pocketing the cash.They are facing this sentence 22 years after the event.Legal action was taken in 1987 but it has only just come to court!How can that be ?Around 30 people who purchased apartments in the Mar Pinos building within the Ciudad Antena complex in Benidorm lost thousands.All but two have either died or refused to testify.The defence has called for the charges to be made null and voidbecause of the excessive delays.All three deny the accusations.
In Calpe a man who is alleged entered the home of his girlfriend through a window and raped her at knife point is facing 13 years in prison.The accused is alleged to have made cuts on the victim’s body .This crime happened in April 2007.
A British woman from Alicante, who had worked for an insurance broker and had been sacked ,continued to sell motorists policies at what she said were highly discounted prices.In reality the policies covered very little.The ” policy” covered breakdown and recovery only.One man was fined for not having insurance even though he had a copy of a policy and receipts.More than 100 people are thought to have purchased from this woman and not all of them realise that they have no cover if they have an accident.
In Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa there has been a crimewave and now the police think that they have caught the gang .Over 50 homes have been burgled ,17 top of the range vehicles have been retrieved ,plus jewellery and cash.Forged documentation and firearms have also been found in their homes.Ten people have now been arrested ,mainly Albanian with a Bulgarian and a Spaniard.This was a highly professional and well organised gang.
