The prosecution is asking for a 22 year prison sentence and the defense want the man to be set free.It appears that the husband turned up at the home of his wife in January 2007 .He hit her with a stick because she was asleep on the settee.They then went to Granja de Rocamora and the defendent drank a bottle of beer and then asked the woman for 24,000 euros and threatened to kill her if she didn’t pay him .He also threatened to kill their children,her father and her brother ,whilst he held a penknife to her throat.They then returned to the house .Once inside the house he proceeded to kill the dog in an attempt to show her just what he was capable of doing.

They then visited a brother and a friend of the victim in an attempt to acquire the money .They refused.They then went to a bar and asked someone else .The victim then managed to escapeto her home and took the children to a safe place.He continued to call her and asked to meet her at the apartment or he would set it on fire,which he did.

The victim has said that she was so afraid of him that she waited until she could escape from him and report it all .The prosecution want one year for the gender based violence,three and a half years for threatening to kill,five months for killing the dog and 17 years for setting fire to the house .This an interesting indication of the priorities of our society .

There has already been one hearing at the Provincial Court in Alicante.The case continues.
