Parents and teachers took part in a protest march in Calpe last week.They were trying to bring attention to the fact that the school which houses their children during the day is ,in their opinion,unsafe.The Nueva Paternina primary school has a high wall in the playground which is crumbling from the effects of rain ,the playground is uneven ,the corridors inside the school are dark because of the type of windowand access for emergency services ,should they ever be needed,is very difficult.
Parents and teachers have had no response with regard to a letter which they have written to the regional education authorities.They say that the department has already said that they have invested a lot of money in the school.The counter argument of the parents and teachers is that it is the safety of the children which should be paramount.Also the conditions in which they have to do their learning.A member of the PTA has said that they have not even bothered to visit the school.
