We have all experienced music being played at full tilt,be it in Mallorca or any other holiday destination and when it goes on late into the night it does invade the privacy of others and it shouldn’t happen .There are laws on noise pollution and they should be enforced.
However when people go on holiday they expect to be able to sit out until late, when it is cooler .They expect to be serenaded by the guitarists or have other live music or even background taped music .It adds to the whole ambience of the place and the enjoyment of your holiday. It is different from being back in the UK.
Now in Mallorca they are introducing quite stringent new laws which prohibit such happenings .This is no way to encourage tourism .In such stringent times councils need to do all that they can to pander to the every whim of the tourist.Consequently ,clearing terraces at 11pm is a crazy thing to do .Many people don’t come out to sit on them until about 10pm ,after they have eaten .This means no serenading by the wandering musicians and no more revenue for anyone. What will happen to these businesses in the winter ?
Then there are the decibel laws for indoor music ,keeping it to 65 decibels ,which is truly not loud .Those with soundproofinf ,like most nightclubs could have 85 decibels with no problem to anyone else. The problem is that there are those who have abused these laws in the past and now certain councils are over reacting and punishing the many .This could have dire consequences for businesses .Maybe if the original laws had actually been enforced then this situation would not have come about .
