Mauricio is a man who comes from West Africa and who lives in Valencia,he has been languishing in prison for a crime he did not commit. He has spent 15 months behind bars because he was thought to be a drug dealer. In reality it has now been discovered that another Guinean was fraudulently using this man’s identity.
The Valencia police have recently arrested another West African during a police raid in the notorious Las Canas district .They took his fingerprintsbut he gave Mauricio’s details ,claiming to be him.Mauricio was then sentensed to four years in prison.Mauricio knew that he wasn’t guilty and has been totally frustrated about his incaceration.
He has been released because at long last the police have discovered that his finger prints did not match those of the original suspect. The attitude of Mauricio is admirable as he bears no grudges towards the man who took his identity ,he is just pleased to be out of prison.
Mauricio is a metal worker and his concerns now are to find a job and get somewhere to live.He has no money and no home.He has never told his family in Guinea about his false imprisonment because he did not want to worry them.He is now seeking legal advice for compensation for false imprisonment. He has nothing but praise for the prison staff and the way in which he was treated. The court has confirmed that his criminal record will be cleared from his records.
