It is alleged that there could be a large number of illegal builds in the Almanzora Valley in Almeria. An ispection team has been set up to assess the true number of homes involved and the contract for the job was given to Proyme,a firm of xarchitects who were appointed by Albox council to collect data for the inspection. Now it has been discovered that this company is under investigation for the possible illegal building of six villas without permits on non -urban land. The inspection was set up to ascetain the exact number of illegal builds and to then move on to a more regulated and transparent management of building in the region .It is one of the directors of the architectural company who has been investigated since November 2007.The verdict will be announced this week and if found guilty he will face a jail sentence.
An expat who bought one of the six villas under scruitiny is asking for this director to be dismissed from the inspection team and has described his inclusion as “hiring a thief to catch a thief”.In other words ,is this man to be trusted? He feels that it would turn the inspection into a farce and only fuel the implications of corruption .
The director has been interviewed for a newspaper and has not mentioned any involvement in a court case. The Mayor of Albox has placed a figure of 4000 illegal builds in the Almanzora Valley says that the firm which has been given the contract was given it fairly as the contract was put out to tender. The Mayor said that he was unaware of any legal action taking place and that in any case the inspection was only to ascertain numbers and not to make the builds legal or otherwise. He said that it was the Junta de Andalucia that had the last word on what would happen. The inspection is due to be completed by the end of August.
