Stealing from in front of a police station truly takes some nerve, yet this has happened in San Fulgencio on the Costa Blanca.A chain of opticians has had five break-ins during the last five weeks or so and the last one was their shop in front of the police station ,yet not a sound was heard.
Each time windows have been smashed and large quantities of spectacles have been taken. On one occasion 150 pairs to the value of 100,000 euros were taken. They have also used sewer lids to break windows ,so they were not exactly well prepared. The Guardia Civil have now taken sets of finger prints and hope to make an arrest.
In Orihuela on the Costa Blanca it has been thefts from cars which has been causing the problems.A 35 year old man has been arrested by the National Police and it is alleged that he has stolen from at least 15 vehicles. The police set up traps to try and catch the thief and finally made an arrest.Local residents collaborated with the police to make the arrest. They discovered several stolen items in his homeĀ and many victims had their goods returned. They also found several magnetic keys which he had used to open doors.
The police believe that he could be responsible for a number of other thefts as he was a prisoner who was permitted day release privileges. This was when he committed his crimes.
