Another Spanish domestic violence case to add to the list.A well known chef from Galicia in north western Spain has been sentensed to 9 months in prison and a 21 month restraining order for abusing his wife.He must also pay her 460 euros in compensation.
The events took place in August 2008.He accused his wife of “smelling of a man “,intimating that she had been with another man.He pressed her blouse to her nose and made her smell it .A violent argument followed and the wife ,who feared for her safety ,fled the house in her pyjamas.He caught up with her in the street ,where she was screaming,and he dragged her by her hair,face down ,along the street.She managed to escape to the home of a friend.Her injuries required medical attention.
He admits to what went on in the house but denies the episode outside and says that she fell against a handrail.He pulled her hair to stop her screaming.Generally pulling someone’s hair makes them scream more!Experts have said that the injuries are more in line with her version of events.
As there was no evidence of constant physical abuse ,he was absolved of that .He will appeal against the sentence.
