When a British couple bought their 160 year old farmhouse on the Gallardos to Bedar road in Almeria ,there was a small “store room ” or “almacen”built near to them to store their neighbours digger and other tools.This was an acceptable build on rural land.They have watched this building grow year by year into what has now become a nightclub called the “Coliseo Romano”.The activities of the nightclub have changed their lives and it is affecting their health .
The British couple have tried to remain on amicable terms with their Spanish neighbour who assured them that the enlarged building would only be used very occasionally for special fiestas.This was not the case.People began to be bussed in from all ways ,laser lights filled the sky and the music went on all night.
The family have now had to engage a lawyer to investigate the building and its licenses,also the positioning of such a building and its original usage.Written requests to Gallardos council for information concerning this building have remained ignored.
This family seems to be more than reasonable about the whole thing and it is the night long music which is causing them the most problems.However in the light of what is happening in other parts of Almeria a change of use by stealth is not unheard of .
Recently the couple had to call in the Guardia Civil to measure the noise levels and things improve for a while but it always goes back to square one .Signs indicate that it is a restaurant but that is far from the truth and as a nightclub it should meet all of the regulatory measures on sound-proofing . This is yet another case to add to the many that have been reported to the European Parliament.
