A gang of British thieves have been caught on the Costa del Sol.They are young people who have lived in the Coin area for a few years and were regarded by locals as well mannered and polite. They kept a low profile in the area, renting luxury villas ,wearing smart clothes and accessories .However it now turns out that this group were diamond thieves .They had committed at least 30 robberies and burglaries .They hailed from Wales ,Ireland and England .They kept a series of what are deemed to be dangerous dogs in their homes. There were also a collection of weapons in their rented homes.
When the Mijas Diamond and Jewellery Centre was burgled the police became suspicious of the group. This was a 30,000 euro haul. They had previously visited the shop and had made detailed plans of the layout before raiding it a few weeks later. When the police raided the rented home they found a stolen Volvo in the garage plus expensive audio equipment in their home . The clothes in the wardrobes were all expensive designer gear. There were also weapons in the garage.
The police admitted that the robberies were well executed.Initially they visited the Mijas shop posing as tourists. When they executed the robbery they were dressed as workers and erected barriers before smashing the shop window. It is alleged that they also broke into private residencies in the area .The Volvo was stolen from a Chinese man at gun point.
Their downfall was the fact that they kept the best of the luxury items and sold on those that they didn’t want. The police are expected to make further arrests as they think that there are three more in the gang who have yet to be traced.
