The Department of Works has announced that for the second consecutive month the unemployment figures have gone down in Malaga .In June 2,560 people returned to work. This represents the highest monthly drop since April 2006 and the most successful June figure for 8 years.Malaga has shown itself to be the most successful province at reducing employment within Andalucia.
Some of this is due to the onset of the summer season with more contracts being signed for casual work in the tourism industry and also in the construction industry. There are also a number of local investment plans taking place which will boost a number of industries. The agriculture industry is the only one to register a drop in employment.
Union representitives are not wanting to appear to optimistic as June is traditionally a month for falling unemployment. There is also the fact that there are still 151,000 people still seeking employment in Malaga Province and this is 48,000 more than in June 2008.It is obviously good that some have found employment but the bigger picture must not be lost in this euphoria.
