The Davis Cup match against Germany took place in Puerta Banus on the Costa del Sol and it was a very close affair as the two countries tied 2-2 .Then a decision by the team coach which may have been construed by some as being a gamble ,placed Ferrero to play the final match against Andreas Beck.Ferrero had not played a davis Cup match since 2005 and he was a substitute for David ferrer who had to pull out because of injury.He was then chosen ahead of Nicolas Amagro to play in the final match.
When ferrer did play in the final game in the 2005 Davis Cup match ,he did win the match for Spain .Maybe team coach Albert Costa felt he could do the same again and he did it .He beat Beck 6-4,6-4,6-4,a very convincing win.
Spain will now meet Israel in the semi-finals on September 18-20.The Israeli team beat Russia by 4-1to go through to the semi-finals for the first time.
