Torrevieja has a very active cycling club and cycling is a very popular sport for very many people at weekends .The backroads around the town are usually very busy at the weekends .The Green Trail follows the old disused railway line from the old RENFE station and is a very enjoyable ride.
The success of Cntador in the Tour de France has enthused both adults and children alike and there has been a real frenzy of cycle buying since he won last week.They all want to emulate their cycling hero.
Each June Torrevieja celebrates “Dia de la Bici”the day of the bike,which attracts hundreds of childrenand parents to ride with police escorts through the streets of the city.
However the town can be daunting for those on cycles and with the new town plan it is hoped that the cyclists will be borne in mind when the infrastructure is redesigned or updated.
