The Spanish political party the Partido Popular ( PP) has accused the government of Sr Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero of illegaly wiretapping members of their party.They say that the ruling PSOE party has been spying on members of the PP by listening to their conversations.The government have categorically denied the accusationswhich were first raised on August 6.
The PSOE say that the PP are just attempting to draw attention away from the on-going corruption case in which several members of the PP are implicated.The PP Secretary General has said that if an accusation such as this has been made ,then the government is beholden to investigate it in an attempt to disprove it not,as the case maybe .She feels that it is insulting to dismiss the accusations and that in a truly democratic country an investigation would be carried out.She feels that the PP has made its accusations and now it should be up to the courts to find out the truth.
So far the members of the PP who have allegedly been spied upon have not been named.
