Last year the coast of Malaga was inundated with jellyfish as was the rest of the Costa del Sol.Red Cross huts on the beaches last summer trated up to 2000 people for the painful stings that these creatures can give. They are the marine creatures that all swimmers fear .
However this year the Costa del Sol coastline has seen far fewer of them.In fact they haven’t gone away as there are still many records of people needing treatment but it is a fact that the number of people needing treatment has reduced significantly.Whether this means that there have been fewer jellyfish is a debatable point. It could be that people have just become more careful about them.
However most of the coastline first aid stations have recorded the same sort of statistic, that numbers of patients are down by at least a third.A marine centre has put the change down to better control of sewage, the heavy rainfalls last winter and an increased predation by tuna and turtles .All of these could have been factors in reducing the jelly fish numbers.
