Benidorm Fines For Red Flag Swimming

In Benidorm the council has issued its first fine to a person who ignored the red flag which was flying on the beach,and went swimming.The fine is being handled by SUMA and could be as much as 1000 euros.The fine was given to a man.

This new regulation was recently included in a new by-law introduced in March and it concerns many anti-social activities carried out on the beach.It targets those who drink alcohol on the beach-with a maximum fine of 150 euros,takes or throws glasses or bottles onto the beach(maximum fine of 750 euros),urinates or defecates on the beach(150 euros),takes dogs onto the sand(150 euros)and also illegal traders who try to sell goods to sunbathers( 300 euros).

Already fines have been handed out to almost 700 people for drinking alcohol on the beach and 126 fines for trading,this was the first time that a swimmer has been penalised for risking his and other people’s lives.
