Spanish News-Unemployment

Almost 85,000 people were added to the jobless list in Spain in August.This followed three consecutive months of falling unemployment .The number of Spanish people who are now out of work in Spain totals almost 3.6 million.In the last 12 months the number of unemployed has gone up by 43%.This was announced by the Ministry of Labour and Immigration.Unemployment rose in almost every sector.The services sector rose by almost 48,000.the construction industry by almost 21,000 and manufacturing by almost 12,000.The number of foreign residents out of work went up by just over 6000 to almost 500,000.

In the province of Malaga the rate of unemployment went up by almost 3% and the government is saying that this has been caused by short term contracts in the tourism sector,coming to an end.They also say that the industry hired fewer people at the beginning of the tourist season.

Home sales in the second quarter of 2009 were down by 12% while in the quarter ending in August they were down by just over 8%.In fact the real estate industry began to contract in 2008 .The Spanish government truly has to work out where it is going in terms of the construction industry as there are still one million unsold homes in Spain and yet they keep talking of new developments.They just cannot go on building and building houses if there is no market out there to purchase them.
