Costa Blanca News-Events

Last Sunday saw the kayak crossing of the sea around the Sierra Helada nature reserve, leaving from Albir. This has become an annual event and this is its eighth year.It is a four hour race with the finish line on Benidorm’s Levante beach. Those who take part are at every level of competency and for many it is just a wonderful way to see the coastline. For others the whole focus is different, they want to win.Entrance fee for the race is 15 euros ,which includes a lunch. The organisers hire out equipment to those who don’t have their own,so for those who didn’t make it this year for that reason then there is no excuse for next year.

On the Orihuela Costa there was another annual event when thousands turned out for the SOL 2009 Bikini Bash. The aim was to break the GuinnessĀ  World record .144 bikini clad women turned up for the official photograph and head count. The objective was to photograph the most bikini clad women in one place at one time.Spanish and German TV crews turned up for the event. There were also plenty of newspaper coverage as well.Sadly there were not enough women there to break the record.Thousands came out to support but they now need a lot more to take off their kit and don a bikini. However 10 local charities did benefit from the event.
