The new hospital in Denia has had a busy summer in the A and E department. The staff in that department have been treating almost 200 people a day ,which is an incredibly high number to deal with.In July there was a daily average of 182 patients, and in August 197 with some of the busiest days bringing up to 260 patients.Even in September the numbers didn’t fall greatly and they were still treating around 140 patients.
Hospital staff have commented that at least 60% of the patients could have been seen at their local medical centres and it is these people who would have had to have waited the longest to be seen. Most of the more serious cases were attended to within an hour but in accordance with the Manchester Sorting System those who have the less serious injuries have to wait the longest.
Denia hospital has had a lot of criticism but from exxperience as a patient one can only praise the staff and the systems which are in place for the patients. The only criticism should be placed at the door of the parking system.Underground carparking should be pitched at a price which doesn’t make you cringe when you have to pay it .Charging a maximum of 50 centimos an hour would be acceptable to most people but the charges which were originally proposed were preposterous and hopefully the public will boycott the underground carpark.
