The PP council in Pedreguer has decided that anyone who has to cross a pavement to get their cars out of their garage has to pay a tax.The town of Pedreguer was once a village and most of the houses had a space on the ground floor for the storage of machinary and the like. These spaces have been converted into garages by most residents and so they require that the space in front of their “garage” is kept free so that they are not boxed in.Being “boxed in ” isn’t much of a problem in Pedreguer because there isn’t masses of traffic wanting street parking. However the council in its wisdom has decided that whether or not they want the space protected ,they will have it and pay for it.
The space in front of a garage in Spain is called a vado and the tax has become known as a “vado tax”.The opposition is not happy about this happening when residents are already hard pressed to pay their taxes as it is .It seems to most people that they pay enough in their property tax to enable them to have this space protected.Surely if people do not have a car then they should be exempt from paying the tax in anycase.
