Calpe ,on the Costa Blanca does not have good communications by road ,rail or bus.Yet it is a major tourist spot on the Costa Blanca. They were hoping that they would have a motorway exit leading directly into the town but their hopes have been dashed as central government has refused to authorise or fund it .The mayor is saying that this just isn’t good enough for the twenty first century.
Those who want to go to Calpe off the AP-7 have either got to go off at Benissa and travel south or come off at Altea and travel north. These routes often involve traffic jams and a lot of slow moving traffic. The only concession that the Spanish government is prepared to make is to build a bypass between Benissa and Altea, running parallel to the N332.The geographical features of Calpe are compplex and the mayor feels that the plans for this bypass are too complicated .This project could also cost more than an exit. The plans for theby-pass are now available for viewing.
