The BMW Oracle Team have said that they feel that to change the venue for the America’s Cup to the Emirates is “not safe’ and that the event should be held in Valencia.
The 33rd America’s Cup was due to take place in Valencia next February, featuring only the Swiss cup holders Alinghi and the challenger of BMW Oracle. The rivalry between the two is heating up with the Us team calling for their tie-breaker competition to be held in Valencia.
Alinghi opted to hold the competition in the United Arab Emirates port city of ras al-Khaima,which Oracle says does not have the infrastructure needed for the race. They have also complained that the location is not safe either. This is due to the fact that it is so near the Iranian border. As well as that it is also very near to an island which is currently under dispute between Iran and the UAE,meaning that there could be hostilities.
The time is running out as the february deadline grows closer so it is highly unlikely that the appeal will be positive about a change in venue. The Oracle sponsor claims that the Swiss team will do anything to make this next America’s Cup a farce.
