Disquiet In Costa de la Luz Port of Huelva

The shipyard workers of Huelva on the Atlantic seaboard of the Costa de la Luz in Andalucia have been demonstrating against the dire situation that they find themselves in with regard to employment. They have blockaded two  bridges which leads into the city on the western side and cut off access to the city.

The workers are from Astilleros de Huelva and the two sister companies Nueva Lima and Instalaciones Industriales nanales de Huelva. The blockade started at 7.30am and cut off both ends of the bridges so that nobody could enter or leave from those points of the city.It ended at 8.30 just as it did last week.

Police had set up diversions to prevent a complete snarl up of traffic but as it was there were two kilometre tailbacks. The shipyard workers are demanding some action about their future employment. There are two ships under construction but the owners have financial problems and the work has been abandoned. They are asking for the regional government to intervene as there is at least one year of employment available with these two constructions.
