Denia is a Costa Blanca town of 50,000 people and it has only one health centre .This last week it has been totally full of those who are having flu vaccinations. There are 20 GP’s working at the centre but even so they have been working to capacity.they are struggling to keep up with the sheer volume of patients.
The problem has been increased because the specialist centre at the old La Pedrera hospital is now closed ,so patients have to attend the GP surgery. It is possible that the situation could worsen once the winter arrives and patients start to arrive with infections such as flu and colds.
Denia is waiting for the local health authority to build a second surgery and also to re-open the specialist centre at La Pedrera,as has been promised. The Marina Alta health service has been privatised and is now managed by Marina Salud.
