Spanish News-Traffic Fines

The amount of revenue which the Spanish Traffic department hopes to gather in 2010 is going to go up by almost 4% to 431.9 million euros .This aspect of the budget was presented to Congress last week and it should send serious signals out to motorists to watch their “p’s’ and ‘q’s”.

The Guardia Civil Traffic Unit will gather this extra revenue via increased fines .It will see a 5% increase in the issuing of tickets .They will issue 2.2 million in 2010, an increse of about 100,000 from 2009.The Traffic Department expects 1.5 million drivers to lose one or more points on their licenses  during 2010( again up by 100,000) and nearly 100,000 drivers will lose their licenses.

Some of this will happen because of the number of fixed radar cameras which have been installed all over the country. These will continue to increase  right through until 2011.The Spanish drivers need to fight back and just drive by the rules, depriving the DGT of our monies. There is one slightly good piece of news and that is that the speed cameras ,by a new traffic law, will regognise a margin of error of 10% in the vehicle speeds recorded by radar. It was originally going to be that there would be a sliding scale of fines for those driving even one kilometre over the limit. Now someone clocked as driving at 132 kph will be judged as having been doing 120 kph.
