Costa Brava News-Jellyfish

They are not being eported because of stinging but on the Costa Brava they are being placed on the menu of certain restaurants.One restaurateur on the Costa Brava who has Michelin Star restaurants feels that it will broaden the cultural aspects of eating.

If you are Japanese or Chinese then they would not demur if it was served on their plates in a restaurant.In Europe it is not possible to serve local catches of these sea creatures  as thye EU does not classify them as a food.It is possible to serve imported varieties  from Asia  and this particular restarateur does eat local varieties as well but is not permitted to use them for the public.The texture is apparently like fresh squid and has a true sea taste.

There could also be health benefits as the Chinese say that it supports the cardio-vascular system,balances blood pressure,improves cholesterol levels ,helps the joints and is good for the skin.

In Barcelona at the Institute of MarineSciences they are working at making a common European jellyfish  an official foodstuff.The predators of the jellyfish are diminishing and global warming is increasing their numbers ,so it makes some sense to use them as food.
