The final phases for El Altet airport in Alicante were announced last week by the PSOEdeputy Carlos Gonzales. The work will be completed in the second half of 2010 .This was a reply to a series of parliamentary questions on the subject. Before the new extension can be put into action there will need to be a three month period when simulations will be carried out, situations which different passenger groups might come up against and which need to be resolved through such simulations.
This terminal is vitally important for the socioeconomic development of the region,as well as it having a much greater capacity and modernity for the public. The investment in the project is running at 381 million euros. The government is also spending 150 million euros. It is the largest investment in Alicante Province since 1977 when democracy returned to Spain. The deputy has placed this investment as a success for a socialist government as the previous regime just ignored the region.
