The regional government’s intercultural and immigration mediator Mohammed Harouiz was in Torrevieja last week.He was speaking to expats of all nationalities. His aim is to build bridges between the cultures in the town and there are many of them,132 different nationalities in fact.
Through his suggested programme it is hoped to reduce racial tension and address the particular problems of expats living in Spain. He had a meeting with various members of different immigrant associations in Torrevieja, including Chinese,Slav,Islamic,Senegalese,Ukranian and Romanian. The councillor for foreign affairs spoke during the meeting and felt that Torrevieja was an excellent example of a town where many races lived together in harmony.
People will always live in harmony as long as they don’t try to impose their cultures on one another. If someone from one culture chooses to live in Spain then those people should respect the Spanish culture and not try to impose their own .Immigrants cannot expect to live the life of their mother country in that of someone else’s.They must adapt.
